Nora Hansen's Journal

Nora ate half of French toast and ate strawberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate a large serving of Hearty Paleo Stew with meat, cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, and carrots. She ate saltines and ate tropical fruit.   Lots of phrases we use as adults do not translate for "concrete thinking" children. They may be able to understand a few of the phrases if you take time to explain what it means, but generally speaking that too is a waste of time. Haha. One of the most obvious would be "it's raining cats and dogs." So Avi was yapping at me about something and I told her she sounded like "a broken record." "What does that mean?!?" Uh, never mind. (I remember lots of old records getting stuck!!) First picture is left over from yesterday afternoon. I was sitting in the chair so I'm much lower than my usual pictures. Nora had no waffle and ate grapes for breakfast. For lunch she ate chicken, whole wheat tortillas, ate corn, and three servings of baked cinnamon apples.   These first two pictures are from yesterday afternoon and I loved the amount of supplies and hard work the girls were putting into their work. Good job everyone. In the second picture Nora was showing me her finished product and I can't really remember what she was telling me (maybe a "pumpkin"), but she'd finished both sides of her paper and the other side was a "haunted house" she said. As you can tell she put lots of hard work and effort into this piece. :) Next picture: This was pretty cute and sweet; Atley told Nora she could have this baby and take it home. Atley said, "I gave Nora this doll because I don't like dolls anymore." (She really never did like them here.) Nora was thrilled. Nora ate kix cereal and fruit cocktail for breakfast. For lunch she ate two servings of ground turkey, ate toasted whole wheat sandwich thins, ate avocado, tomato, and two servings of black-raspberries. She said, "These are SO Sweet." Avi said, "Too Sour!!" So that's how the different taste buds work!! First two pictures - Atley and Nora were at the window looking at the neighbor's yard and saying things like; "Those are so beautiful!!" "I like them SO much!" So I peeked out and took a picture of some beautiful roses so you could see what the girls were enjoying. Our ONE rose bush in the front yard has ONE full rose (that's very pretty) and another one it's way! Nora and Atley said the rose was pretty, but they like the neighbor's better. Haha. I do too. Next picture: Atley said, "Gary I'm not doing any pictures today!" Ok, that's your choice. That lasted until Nora arrived and Nora wanted to do some art and ...

Nora ate oatmeal and three servings of baked cinnamon apples for breakfast. For lunch she ate a large serving of hamburger stew with meat, carrots, tomatoes, green beans, and potatoes. She ate two servings of fruit cocktail, and no whole wheat dinner roll.   Nora told me 2 or 3 times this morning that "Mom says I have to take a nap." (And Nora is already asleep!) One of the times she was reminding me about the nap she elaborated: "Mom wanted me to tell you that she wants me to take a nap. AND she doesn't want Atley to bug me while I'm taking a nap!!" Haha. Ok, I got it! (Don't wanna get in trouble with Mom!!) This first picture is leftover from yesterday afternoon and the story behind this is pretty cute. Nora asked, "What does the number 100 and the number 2000 look like." So I grabbed a piece of chalk and I said, "I'll show you what they look like." Nora and Atley were impressed. Nora ate half of French toast and a bite of dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate pulled pork, whole wheat toast, peas, and two servings of strawberries. This isn't about Nora, but she giggled about this at lunch. Svea came in time for Lunch and she said, "Gary, when I eat it makes my teeth hurt." Atley, with an immediate answer, said, "Well maybe one of them are rotten because you haven't been brushing your teeth." Haha. Wow, go straight for "worst case scenario!" And of course Atley loved it because she made Nora laugh. I took this first picture yesterday afternoon when Atley and Nora were working hard on some Art papers. They have lots of supplies on the table and they get those all laid out first before they begin. They were back at it this morning before breakfast with even more supplies this morning. Nora ate whole wheat toast and ate mangoes for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground beef mixed with marinara sauce on top of whole wheat spaghetti noodles, ate cauliflower, and three servings of fruit salad.   This first picture is actually leftover from yesterday afternoon when the kids were playing with the cars and car ramp. Nora asked me to cover them up with the "parachute." Atley, Nora, Cal, and Miles are under the parachute. The boys soon left and inadvertently took most of the parachute with them! Nora ate blueberry bagel and two servings of grapes for breakfast. For lunch she ate shrimp, two servings of brown rice (covered in juice from the blackberries - see picture below), ate broccoli, and black raspberries. ALL the kids are eating their rice covered with berry juice now. :) I had to take a picture so you could see what it looks like. Nora ate some bran cereal and some raisins for breakfast. Nora ate bites of lunch: chicken, toasted whole wheat pita bread, avocado, cucumbers, and pears.   This first picture pretty much tells the story when Nora arrived!!  Ha! They were so happy to see each other and I love watching these reunions!! Later in the morning Atley asked Nora, "Did you miss me when I was at Camp?" Nora's answer was precious!! She didn't say "yes or no," but emphatically said, "SO MUCH!!" Last week Nora only mentioned it once, but she said, "I miss Atley So much!" Avi is at a Camp this week so it was Atley and Nora here for Team Kindergarten. They went to the Preschool Room and Atley worked on Art. and Nora worked on a puzzle. We did a toy, book, and puzzle exchange this Weekend so they were enjoying the new stuff. These two were talking constantly as they worked. Atley said, "I got wet in the Big Rapids!" Nora ate cream of wheat cereal and dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate chicken, brown rice, broccoli, and three servings of pineapple. Nora was in the kitchen watching me cook Cream of Wheat cereal for breakfast and I was "singing" an original 'Gary Tune' about trying to decide if I should call her "Betty Crocker or Nora Cracker." Nora said, "You're being weird right now." LOL!! That made me laugh hard. Yup, you pretty much nailed it Nora! :) First picture: Nora spotted a couple of small cute birds in the yard - colored black and white. She said, "They're called salmon." I had to question her; "Salmon!? Like the fish salmon!?" Nora said, "Yes," "Really? Are you sure!?" Nora said, "Yes. My Mom told me." I love that phrase. Nora ate blueberry waffle and two servings of fruit salad for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground turkey, half of whole wheat tortillas, "one tiny bite" (her words) of sweet potatoes, and ate cherries.  Nora is SO proud of the fact she can now open the storm door to get into the house from the Daycare yard. She had to show Kelsey too. Nora told me; "It feels SO good opening the door!" Isn't that the sweetest. I love how she expresses her feelings. She's been trying to open that door for a long time.  These first two pictures are leftover from yesterday afternoon. Svea and Nora were laughing, acting goofy, and basically having a blast. Nora ate French toast and three servings of strawberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate most of Whole 30 Chili with meat, peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, tomato sauce, and spices. She ate whole wheat dinner roll, and topical fruit - mangoes and pineapple.  Just a heads-up for everyone: I've already told the kids, but I want the Parents to know in case the kids are asking about Science with Lauralea this week and next week. I've cancelled the Science Class for 2 weeks while 3 of our older kids are doing Swim Lessons. Lauralea is a busy lady and I'm not about to ask her to shuffle her schedule to make it work for these two weeks. :) Thanks.  I was having fun with Nora in these first two pictures and you can probably guess what we're doing!! Nora ate toasted and buttered whole wheat English muffin and two servings of grapes for breakfast. For lunch she ate pork roast, two servings of whole wheat toast, ate beets, and applesauce.  First picture: I took this picture when these three kids were at the window waving bye - as both families arrived at basically the same time this morning. So there is a rabbit in the picture too - in case one of the families thought the kids were a bit distracted at the window! :) You can zoom in and see the rabbit just over the top of the trailer wheel and a bit to the right. :) Of course Miles is looking it the other direction!  Two pictures before swim lessons: Selfies with Gary. Nora ate bites of bran cereal and bites of raisins for breakfast. For lunch she ate bites of chicken with avocado on top, ate toasted whole wheat sandwich thins, and ate mandarin oranges.   You won't see any pictures of Svea, Atley, or Avi with Nora in today's Blog. Svea and Avi also had swimming lessons so they didn't arrive until almost 11:00. Atley is gone all week on a river float trip in Oregon. I've prepared the kids several times that Atley would be gone. This morning Nora asked, "Atley gone today?" (That was after listening to me tell Emily where Atley was at.) Correct; she is not coming today. Nora said, "So she is not coming today?" Yes, that is correct. :) I took this first picture of Nora sitting and looking like a cutie. She said, "Gary, I do not like pictures." Yes, I know that. And that's why I usually try to be very discreet, but this was too cute to pass up. And it became even more cute when you covered up!! Haha.  So y...
